Educational buildings aid effective communication and provide environments where learning and collaboration should thrive. Good acoustic design is essential to allow students to hear clearly and where staff do not need to strain to be heard.

Acoustic design should Include good isolation from external noise sources, control of reverberation times by absorbent finishes and sufficient sound insulation between rooms. Inclusive acoustic design also considers people with diverse hearing, speech and learning requirements (Special Educational Needs or SEN) that require more specific acoustic conditions to achieve the teaching and learning optimum.
